Cosgrove to be Inducted Into Black Bear Hall of Fame

Orono, Maine - Jack Cosgrove, the Dick McGee Head Coach for Colby Football, was recently announced as one of the eight newest inductees to the University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame.  The class includes the legendary coach as well as standouts from football, men's and women's ice hockey, softball, baseball, men's track & field, and women's basketball.

At the helm of the Black Bear program, Cosgrove led his teams to 123 victories over 23 seasons, including three NCAA playoff appearances.  He coached 20 All-Americans, three NFL Draft picks, and was awarded conference coach of the year three times.  He earned the American Football Monthly 1-AA National Coach of the year in 2001, and was named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year in 2001, 2008, and 2013.  In 2014, Cosgrove was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

"I am honored and excited to be inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame," said Cosgrove. "I spent a significant part of my coaching career there, learned a lot about myself and my players, and look back on those years with great fondness."

Cosgrove is in the early years of his tenure at Colby, and sees an exciting direction for his football team.  In his first two seasons on Mayflower Hill (2018, 2019), he guided Colby to two straight CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) Championships with a perfect 4-0 record against the in-state rivals.  "I am very excited about the future here at Colby."  Cosgrove continued, "the commitment to athletics and championship aspirations that have been echoed across campus have been embraced by our program.  It's an exciting time to be a Mule!"

The induction ceremony will take place later this summer on September 17.
